Hi, my name is

Ing. Johanna Rührig

Senior Site Reliability Engineer

I’m a senior site reliability engineer and technical leader with extensive experience designing and guiding high-availability infrastructure in Kubernetes and OpenShift environments. My leadership approach blends deep technical expertise with a focus on collaboration, enabling teams to deliver reliable, scalable systems through automation and continuous improvement.

I lead by example (building solutions with tools like HELM, Terraform, Git, Jenkins, and ArgoCD) and fostering an environment where others can learn, experiment, and grow. I’m passionate about creating systems that empower teams to operate with confidence and autonomy. After several fulfilling years in large enterprise environments, I’m now seeking opportunities where reliability, ownership, and innovation meet to create lasting impact.

About Me

I am passionate about leading by example and fostering a culture of reliability and collaboration. My enthusiasm for SRE and operations extends beyond work. I run my own homelab to experiment with new technologies and continuously improve my skills. I believe in hands-on learning, sharing knowledge, and building resilient systems that empower teams and organizations. Here are a few technologies I've been working with recently:
  • AWS
  • Azure
  • GCP
  • ITSM
  • ESM
  • K8s
  • Helm
  • Docker
  • Argo CD
  • Jenkins
  • Dynatrace
  • Grafana
  • Prometheus
  • Apigee
  • Akamai

Experience

Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Allianz Technology
Sep 2020 - Sep 2025

I worked as a site reliability engineer at Allianz Technology focusing on improving the resilience, scalability, and performance of sales operations systems. In this role, I designed and implemented infrastructure solutions using Kubernetes, OpenShift, HELM, Terraform, GitOps, Jenkins, and ArgoCD, ensuring reliable and automated deployments across multiple environments.

Beyond the technical work, I led projects to migrate critical workloads to cloud platforms and introduced disaster recovery strategies that significantly reduced downtime and operational risk. I also improved monitoring and observability practices, helping teams respond faster to incidents and maintain system stability. Collaborating with international teams, I worked to streamline release processes and implement best practices for sustainable operational excellence.

What I most value in my work is the intersection of technology and people. Building reliable systems is only part of the challenge, because enabling teams to collaborate effectively, share knowledge, and grow together is just as important. My time at Allianz deepened my expertise in cloud infrastructure and DevOps workflows, and reinforced my belief that thoughtful engineering and strong teamwork are the foundations of truly dependable systems.

Full-Stack-Developer - Cloudflight
Sep 2019 - Sep 2020

I worked as a full-stack developer at Cloudflight, delivering tailored software solutions for clients including Deutsche Bahn, Porsche, and u-space. In this role, I contributed to both front-end and back-end development, helping build scalable, maintainable applications that addressed each client’s unique needs.

I collaborated closely with cross-functional teams, translating complex requirements into reliable and user-friendly systems. My work involved implementing modern technologies and frameworks, optimizing workflows, and ensuring the applications could scale effectively as user demand grew. This experience strengthened my ability to adapt quickly to diverse projects and deepened my understanding of end-to-end software delivery, from design and development to deployment and maintenance.

Education

2023 - Present
Psychology
FernUniversität Hagen
Since psychology has always piqued my interest, I gave in to my curiosity and started studying. Whenever time allows, I am completing the basics of neurology and concepts of psychology.
2015 - 2016
Information Technology
TU Vienna

During my studies at TU Vienna, I completed several lectures including:

  • Data Science
  • Logic and Computation
  • Software Engineering
  • Project Management

This was sponsored by ÖZBF (Austrian Center for Gifted Talents Education and Research).

2013 - 2019
Federal Higher Technical Institute (Software Engineering & Economics)
htl donaustadt

After successfully completing the Federal Higher Technical Institute and after applying relevant engineering tasks for several years, I was granted the engineer’s degree.

During my studies, I participated in and won several coding contests, hackathons, and IBM Master the Mainframe events.

My final diploma thesis focused on a fully automated all-in-one DevOps suite, fully configured and ready-to-go, which could be deployed using just one singular Dockerfile.
